Former R&AW officer Vikash Yadav, charged by the US in the Gurpatwant Singh Pannun assassination plot, has captured the nation’s attention. And, as it turns out, he’s also facing criminal charges in India unrelated to the charges brought by the US. Vandana Menon visited his village in Pranpura, Haryana, where residents, protective of him and his family, describe him as “sensitive and caring”, a “role model”. His family is bewildered by all the accusations against him, but is mostly in disbelief. “Do you believe everything you see on the news?” his mother asks. Read Vandana’s ground report.

Meanwhile, Apoorva Mandhani and Bismee Taskin look into how the Delhi Police’s attempted murder and kidnapping case against Yadav, could block any extradition attempt made by the US over the Pannun murder plot. They spoke to legal experts to understand how this complicates matters. Read the story to know more.

On Sunday evening, the BJP announced its first list of 99 candidates for the 20 November Maharashtra assembly elections, repeating many incumbents, giving tickets to family members of several party leaders, and some new faces. Read Purva Chitnis’s story to know who is contesting from where.

In defence news, Indian Army’s helmets have been generating some buzz and being compared to US and China’s military gear. And this is not the first time that such comparisons have emerged. Smruti Deshpande explores how the Indian Army's helmets have evolved over the years and how they stack up against those of other countries. Read her story.
