Akshay Kumar, Lisa Haydon, Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor and Piyush Mishra starrerThe Shaukeens released on November 7 and got off to decent start. The film, which is the remake of Basu Chatterjee’s 1982 hit Shaukeen, raked in Rs 5 crore on day 1 (Friday). And on day 2 (Saturday) the scenario was pretty much the same as it collected Rs 5 crore thus bringing its domestic box office total to Rs 10 crore. The film has received mixed response from the critics. However, so far the The Shaukeens has fared decently at the ticket windows and so it likely to do well even on Sunday.
According to Boxofficeindia, “The Shaukeens had reasonable growth of 20-25% on Saturday though it needed more growth due to low start on Friday. Still there is growth and the film now needs a very strong hold on Monday.”
On the other hand, Farah Khan’s directorial venture Happy New Year starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah collected Rs 1.8 crore on its third Saturday which isn’t bad at all.
With Shaad Ali’s Kill Dil hitting the theaters this Friday, wethinks both The Shaukeens and HNY will have a tough time pulling in crowds to the cinema halls.
