The new song from Abhinav Kashyap’s new quirky comedy Besharam featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Pallavi Sharda is like old wine served in a brand new bottle. Considering the inclination of B-town filmmakers towards remakes of old and classic movies, music composers have no option but to recreate old songs to add the desired flavour. Though it comes under the name of ‘creative borrowing’, B-town’s music people are quite high on that concept, especially of late!
The song Dil ka jo haal instantly reminds you of the Aamir Khan-Sonali Bendre romantic number Jo haal dil ka from Sarfarosh, composed by the formidable and versatile composer duo Jatin-Lalit and sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik in the 1999 film. After working together for almost 16 years and ruling the ‘90s with their soulful compositions, brothers Jatin and Lalit spilt in 2006 due to financial reasons. Surprisingly, co-producer Lalit Pandit revisits his old composition in Abhinav Kashyap’s film to create this melodic number. What we like about the song – besides the ‘90s feel – is that it brings singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya back into the gaana game, though this time not for his favourite Shahrukh Khan (for whom he sang popular songs almost a decade ago), but for Ranbir! Like the original, this one also has a touch of rock and electric guitar spicing it up
