We don’t know if it was a mere coincidence that Akshay Kumar’s latest bar song came out around the same time as the court’s decision on reopening dance bars
Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara’s latest track has a certain ’70s charm – the set up, the music, the three dancers and Akshay Kumar’s vintage look take you back to the times of Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi. And with a lot changing in the maikhana circuit there’s more good news for bar dancers, ‘coz they have a new song to grove to.
The music particularly is the highlight of this song that’s unlike any item song that’s come out in recent times. Dialogues mouthed by don Akki add to the punch that Milan Luthria intends to bring out in the song. While Rajat Arora’s lyrics are clichéd like the ’70s era – “Tu hi khwahish, tu hi khatra, zeher tera mujh mein utra”, Pritam manages to compose a peppy track that takes you back in time but it’s Sunidhi Chauhan’s seductive voice that guides this song to the right pitch. All in all this is a number that’s true to this film’s look, feel and story!
