A sessions court on Friday rejected the bail request to Sooraj Pancholi, son of a couple of actors, arrested on charges of complicity in the suicide of actress Jiah Khan.
The court rejected the bail after the prosecution objected on the grounds that the investigations had reached a crucial stage and his release could impede research.
In his statement bail, Sooraj , housed in the Arthur Road Central Jail since June 10 and stated that the applicant Jiah's mother, Rabiyah Khan, was seeking revenge for reasons best known to her.
The bail application filed by his lawyer CK Talekar, Rabiyah also claimed that he was "abusing" Jiah letter that was found four days after his suicide at his home on June 3. The police had arrested Sooraj, son of Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, on the basis of this letter.
Rabiyah and police had claimed that the letter was "incriminating" against Sooraj. However, the bail petition of Sooraj argues that the five-page letter could not have been written before killing himself. Moreover, not addressing him and had no name.
The Andheri magistrate's court had referred earlier to Sooraj judicial custody after rejecting the application for police custody. Thereafter, he filed the application for bail. Jiah's letter claimed that he was "devastated" in his relationship with Suraj and was tired of that he is a "womanizer".
