Breakfast shows are usually hosted by very experienced radio jockeys. So here I was on my first job and they gave me a chance to do breakfast show and promoted that show a lot. I was seen on hoardings in Delhi. It was completely new to me at that time."
Ayushmann further adds, "In 2006, we worked on a lot of stirring content when radio was going through its second phase and we started as a retro station. I don't think at the age of 22, there was anyone in my age group other than me who was so well versed about retro Bollywood. Hence, my inclination towards music helped me become a good radio jockey and journalism Masters in me, of course, prepared me well to host the show."
Before becoming a VJ on the country's largest youth TV channel, Ayushmann hosted Maan Na Maan and Phir Main Tera Ayushmann at the station. After this, she made her Hindi film Big Debut with Vicky Donor, which was a resounding success. He says, "I think it is very important for everyone to focus on the starting point of their career as these are the formative years of one's career. They can either make you or break you. I was lucky to be among creative people who were looking to create a stir."
Radio helped increase confidence
Ayushmann is now called the poster boy of content cinema in India and his hit social entertainers have earned him a place in the list of 'Most Influential People in the World' by the prestigious Time Magazine. He says, "I always wanted to explore my profession in entertainment and performing arts and my early career as a radio jockey helped me gain confidence about myself. The success I tasted as a radio jockey taught me that I could back myself and explore myself to be an entertainer. It's just a coincidence that I also hosted some off-centre shows."
Ayushmann further adds, "Looking back, I feel that I was always inspired by general concepts and this has become my identity today because I choose subjects that are fresh and unique. I am very grateful for my early career with radio. I remember doing some different concepts in my show. I thank everyone for listening and loving those thoughts as it shaped me into who I am today. It inspired me to push myself and explore constantly to give something new to people."
Ayushmann further adds, "There are amazing talents out there in the radio industry and it was my good fortune that I got a chance to meet and interact with some of them. Radio has been the pulse of the nation for years and I am glad that I started my career in this industry because we could experiment and create programs that people listened to and loved. It was so much fun and satisfying."
