Like every struggling actor, Zarine Khan wished for a big break in Bollywood and fortunately her ‘good friend’, mentor, philosopher and guide Salman Khan blessed her with a dream launch pad in Veer. But as luck would have it, the big-budget film bombed at the box office. Then Sallu gave Zarine another opportunity in the form of the hit track Character dheela in his superhit movie Ready. This time the film dis phenomenal business at the box office, but Zarine couldn’t really cash in on the success… maybe because she featured only in the song.Housefull 2 did well, but her co-stars Asin Thottumkal and Jacqueline Fernandez overshadowed her almost completely.
A couple of minutes back ago we got an e-mail announcing: ‘Zarine Khan signed for Jatt James Bond’. Apparently Ms Z has been signed on to play the lead role in her first Punjabi film titled Jatt James Bond produced by Fortune House Productions – and we had to wonder whether after the film’s release the production house would still be called ‘Fortune’! – in association with Gurdeep Dhillon Films, to be directed by Rohit Jugraj. Punjabi heartthrob Gippy Grewal is the leading man, while JJB also stars Vindu Dara Singh, Mukesh Rishi, Avtar Gill and stand-up comedian Gurpreet Guggi. ZK’s debut Punjabi vehicle will begin shoots this October.
Now even in her wildest dreams we don’t think Zarine would’ve thought of doing a Punjabi film, but considering the fact that her Bollywood career is sputtering sadly, the voluptuous babe doesn’t really have much of a choice but to try her hand at language cinema. Also, with Salman busy mentoring his various new protégées, it looks like Ms Khan has to look elsewhere for support if she wants to stay filmi, no? But we will examine that one only after we stop giggling at the name of the new film – Jatt James Bond!
